HelpSigning in and keeping your account safe
Reset a forgotten password
Who this is for: Guests
Anyone who has an account but cannot sign in because the password is forgotten. It helps you choose a new password with a link sent to your email.
Before you start
- You need the email address your account was made with, and to be able to open that mailbox.
- The link works once and for 60 minutes. Have the mailbox open before you start.
- Your new password needs at least 12 characters and no more than 128. Numbers and symbols are not required. It cannot be one of the passwords people choose most often, or your email address. A phrase of a few words is a good choice.
Steps
- On the sign-in page, choose Forgot password?, under the Password box.
- In the Reset Password window, type your email address into Registered email address.
- Choose Email me a reset link.
- Open the email titled “Reset your Sangat Portal password” and choose Reset my password.
- Under Choose a new password, type New password and then Confirm new password.
- Choose Save my new password.
What happens next
- After step 3 the window says: “If [the address you typed] has a Sangat account, a reset link is on its way. It works once, for 60 minutes. Check your spam folder too.” It says the same whether or not the address has an account, so no one can use it to find out who is a member.
- After step 6 you see “Your new password is saved. Welcome back” and you are signed in and taken to the Sangat Portal.
- Every device that was signed in to your account is signed out, and you are signed in again on this one. A new link sent later cancels any earlier one.
- Reaching your mailbox also confirms your email address.
- Nothing is changed on your account until you save the new password. If you did not ask for the email, ignore it. Your current password keeps working. The Sansthan never asks for your password by email, phone or WhatsApp.
If something looks different
- “Needs at least 12 characters.” The hint under the box shows what is missing. When you choose Save my new password, you may also be told your password “needs to be harder to guess (that one is very common)”, which means choose a less common one, or “needs to be different from your email address”, which means exactly that.
- “The two passwords don’t match.” Type the same password in both boxes.
- “This reset link has expired or was already used. Links work once, for 60 minutes.” Choose Email me a new link.
- “Too many reset requests. Try again in an hour.” You may ask only a few times an hour. Wait, then try again, or use the help line shown.
- “Password reset emails can’t be sent right now.” Use the help line shown, which is a WhatsApp number or the office.
- No email arrives. Look in your spam folder. If you have a pending activation from a center, you receive a fresh activation link instead.
- “Too many attempts. Try again in … minutes.” This appears on sign-in after several wrong passwords, and the page names the wait. You can still reset by email while you wait.
- A Super Admin account. Some Super Admin accounts have extra protection. They are emailed a code instead of a link, and need one of their recovery codes as well. Ask another Super Admin if you have none.
- You cannot get past the second step after signing in. That is a separate matter. See Use the email code.
