Choose the light or dark look

This guide shows how to switch between the dark and the light look of the site, and says plainly what the site offers for language.

Steps

1. Find the round sun and moon button in the header. It is on every page, for guests too. On a phone it stays in the header at the top, beside search.
2. Press it. The site changes at once between the dark theme and the light theme.
3. Press it again to go back.

The button's name tells you where it will take you: Switch to Temple Dawn while you are in the dark theme, and Switch to Divine Dark Temple while you are in the light one. For people of the United Kingdom branch the light theme is called UK Temple, so the button reads Switch to UK Temple.

Signed in, you can also choose Light, Dark or System (which follows your device) under Appearance on the My Account & Settings page. Open it from your account menu by choosing Profile and settings; on a phone, choose Me on the bottom bar first.

What happens next

• The dark theme is the temple look: a deep dark canvas with ivory text and amber and gold accents. Temple Dawn is the light look, on warm sandalwood parchment rather than stark white.
• A first visit opens in the theme your region has chosen as its default. If you have chosen before, the site opens in your choice.
• Your choice is remembered on this device. If you are signed in, it is also saved to your account, so it follows you to your other devices.

About language

The site is written in English. There is no language switch in the header, the phone menu or the footer at present, so there is nothing to choose.

Your details do hold a Preferred language (Hindi, English or Punjabi), which you choose when you give your details at sign-up or in the sangat information form. It is kept with your details and does not change the language of the pages.

If something looks different

• There is no sun and moon button. A Super Admin can lock the theme for a region. When it is locked, the button is hidden and everyone in that region sees the region's own starting theme, whatever they chose before.
• A page stays dark when you chose light. A few pages, among them the home page, the science page and the about page, keep a dark look in either theme. Everything else follows your choice.
• The reception kiosk has no switch. It always uses the light look.
